Former Liverpool Striker Daniel Sturridge Claims Unawareness of Arrest Warrant Hearing

Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has claimed that he was unaware of a hearing in California after a warrant was issued for his arrest for failing to appear in court. The warrant was issued in connection with a claim made by a man who says he found Sturridge’s dog. In July 2019, Sturridge publicly offered a reward for the safe return of his stolen pet Pomeranian, which was later reunited with him by an American rapper known as Killa Fame.

However, Killa Fame stated that he did not receive the promised payment, leading him to launch a civil lawsuit. In December 2021, an LA court ordered Sturridge to pay $30,000 following a default judgment that came after the ex-Liverpool star failed to respond to the complaint. Sturridge was then called back to court for a ‘debtor’s exam’, but he did not attend. As a result, a bench warrant has been issued, summoning him to appear in court on November 30.

Sturridge has now addressed the claims, stating that he had only recently been made aware of the court hearing. He insists that he personally paid a reward to the young boy who found his dog and claims that the person seeking payment is not due any money. Sturridge further explained that he was unaware of the court hearing taking place as the legal paperwork was sent to an Airbnb property that he had left within 24 hours of the burglary.

He has now instructed California lawyers to deal with the matter and is confident that it will be resolved in his favor quickly. Foster Washington, the man who found Sturridge’s dog, previously claimed that the former striker ‘thought he was above the law’ and that his legal challenge was ‘a matter of principle’.

Sturridge had previously posted about the dispute on social media following the initial court ruling in December 2021. He expressed his gratitude to the young boy who found his dog and paid him a reward. Washington, however, claims that Sturridge promised him money that he has yet to receive.

The former striker’s last professional match was in April 2022 for Perth Glory in the Australian A-League. While he has not officially retired, Sturridge has taken on a role as a pundit for Sky Sports at the start of the Premier League season, although he has not appeared since the opening weekend in August.
