The father of the viral ‘mummy calm down‘ boy has finally spoken out after the unexpected death of his wife.
However, his version of events differs from what neighbors have reported, casting uncertainty on the circumstances surrounding her demise.
The incident unfolded in Benin City, Edo State, prompting questions about the events leading to her death. According to Lawal, upon returning from the market, he found their two-year-old child crying.
Upon entering the house, he discovered his wife hanging from a rope tied to the ceiling. Quickly, he loosened the rope and sought help from neighbors, who assisted in removing it from his wife’s neck.
Contrary to Lawal’s account, neighbors claim that when they responded to his cries, they found him lying on top of his wife, with no mention of a rope. This conflicting testimony has added complexity to the investigation.
Toluige Olokobi Babalola, the woman and son who gained internet fame in 2021 with the ‘mummy calm down’ video, reportedly committed suicide in Benin, Edo State. The Edo State Police Command has initiated a thorough investigation, transferring the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further examination.
Police Public Relations Officer Chidi Nwabuzor confirmed that Commissioner of Police Muhammed Dankwara ordered the transfer. The police have recovered a rope and a purported suicide note allegedly written by Toluige.
Despite inspecting the body and finding no signs of violence, investigators are puzzled, intensifying the need for a comprehensive inquiry to uncover the truth behind Toluige’s tragic death.
