Arsenal took the lead in the 14th minute, courtesy of a goal by Stina Blackstenius. However, Manchester United quickly responded, leveling the score with a goal from Leah Galton. The packed-out crowd at Leigh Sports Village was on their feet, cheering the Reds on throughout the game.

As the match approached its end, substitute Melvine Malard made an impressive debut for United, scoring a goal that seemed to secure victory. However, Arsenal’s Cloe Lacasse had other plans, delivering a stunning strike to ensure the points were shared between the two teams.

The game started slowly, with both Arsenal and United having early chances. Blackstenius attempted to guide the ball into Mary Earps‘ hands, but the United goalkeeper made a crucial save. Lucia Garcia also tried to break through the United defense but failed to get past Sabrina D’Angelo.

On the 14th minute mark, Arsenal took the lead after a run down the left-hand side resulted in Blackstenius slotting the ball into the net. United, however, did not panic and quickly equalized just before the 30-minute mark. Galton capitalized on a mistake by D’Angelo, guiding the ball into an empty net.

United gained momentum after the equalizer, with Katie Zelem attempting a free-kick, but it failed to find its mark. The team controlled the game in the five minutes leading up to half-time, producing excellent team play. Despite several crosses from summer signing Gabby George and Galton, Geyse and Garcia were unable to convert their chances.

In the second half, United emerged from the dressing room with confidence, launching another attempt at goal. However, Geyse’s low effort missed the mark, resulting in a goal-kick for Arsenal. The visitors made a triple substitution, gaining more possession but failing to trouble Earps until a cross from Steph Catley narrowly missed everyone in the box.

Arsenal continued to press for a goal, with Rachel Williams being brought on as a substitute. United also made changes, introducing Hinata Miyazawa and Melvine Malard for their debuts. Russo, playing against her former team, came close to scoring but hit the post.

United’s persistence paid off when Malard took advantage of confusion between Amanda Ilestedt and D’Angelo to score, giving United a late 2-1 lead. Arsenal thought they had equalized when Frida Maanum found the net, but the offside flag was raised, much to the relief of the United fans.

However, deep into injury time, Lacasse, a substitute for Arsenal, curled the ball into the top corner, leaving Earps with little chance to save it. The game ended in a draw, with both teams earning a point.

This thrilling match surely left the fans wanting more. United’s next challenge is a Champions League matchup against Paris Saint-Germain, and tickets are still available for the highly anticipated clash.
