Former Arsenal star, Jack Wilshere has named West Ham’s Declan Rice as the best defensive midfielder in the world, urging the England international to join Mikel Arteta’s Gunners instead of Manchester United.

The West Ham midfielder is in high demand ahead of the summer transfer window.

Manchester United and Chelsea are already preparing their bids for the player after the 23-year-old’s impressive performances this season.

West Ham manager, David Moyes valued the England star at £150 million.

Wilshere, a former Arsenal and England midfielder, watched Rice as he registered another impressive display in West Ham’s 1-1 draw with Lyon in the Europa League on Thursday evening and gave a glowing review of the England international.

“Tell me a better [defensive midfielder]DMF than Declan Rice right now?” Wilshere wrote on Twitter.

“Can’t think of anyone who can do what Dec [Rice] can,” he added.

And a fan proposed Liverpool’s Fabinho is a better option.

Wilshere replied,

“Doesn’t have the presence Dec has.

“Dec can do everything he can and more.

“[Sergio] Busquets was the only one 3 or 4 years ago. And remember he played in a team that dominated possession in every game.

“Dec’s job is harder in this team. He could play in any team in Europe. Fact. Let’s hope it’s Arsenal.”
