Meryl Streep, the three-time Oscar-winning actor, has officially confirmed her separation from her husband, Don Gummer, after six years, as confirmed by her publicist.
Streep and Gummer, an American sculptor, have been married since 1978 and share a strong bond. However, a spokesperson for Streep revealed to the PA news agency on Saturday that the couple has chosen to live separate lives, while still caring for each other.
The couple has four children together, all of whom have followed in their mother’s footsteps and pursued careers in acting. Streep’s children include Mamie Gummer, known for her role in The Good Wife, Grace Gummer, who has appeared in Mr Robot, and Louisa Gummer, who stars in The Gilded Age. Additionally, her son, Henry Wolfe Gummer, is a musician and actor.
Streep’s recent acting projects include the comedy murder mystery series Only Murders In The Building, the drama Let Them All Talk, and the Netflix satire Don’t Look Up. Throughout her illustrious career, Streep has earned a total of 21 Academy Award nominations, making her one of the most celebrated actors in history.
Among her notable Oscar-winning performances are her roles in the legal drama Kramer Vs Kramer in 1979, where she played Joanna Kramer, and the psychological film Sophie’s Choice in 1982, where she portrayed the titular character. In 2011, she won her third Oscar for her remarkable portrayal of Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady.
During her acceptance speech for The Iron Lady, Streep made a heartfelt mention of her husband, Gummer, expressing her gratitude for their shared life. She humorously commented that she wanted him to know that he is the source of everything she values most in their lives.
