Emefiele Reveal Why He Was Late To Reps Hearing On Aviation

The Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has disclosed why he was late to the hearing of the ad hoc committee of the House of Representatives investigating the fuel crisis in the aviation sector.

Naijaloaded had reported how Mr. Emefiele’s representative to the hearing, Kingsley Obiora, was asked to leave by Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila.

Few minutes after Obiora left, the CBN Governor joined the meeting and explained that he asked Mr. Obiora, who is a deputy governor in the apex bank, to represent him because he was on a national assignment in Lagos.

He explained that he was delayed at the Lagos Airport.

Airline operators, regulators, and other stakeholders had appeared before the committee to avert the future shutdown of the sector.

It would be recalled that the operators had threatened to shut down domestic flights as they complained of the exorbitant cost of jet fuel.

While speaking on the crisis, the CBN governor said the bank will be willing to support the airline operators with needed resources.

Following over 3 hours of deliberation, the lawmakers and the stakeholders agreed to allow the marketers to import the jet fuel by directing all relevant authorities to commence the process for the license.
