The Supreme Court Dismisses APM’s Challenge on APC’s V.P. Candidate Selection

The dismissal came after Chukwuma Majukwu Umeh, the lawyer representing the appellant, applied to withdraw the appeal. The seven-member panel, led by Justice John Okoro, accepted the withdrawal and subsequently dismissed the case.

Prior to the dismissal, the panel members had noted that the appeal was frivolous. They highlighted that in a previous case involving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Supreme Court had already ruled that Shettima’s nomination was valid.

Justice Okoro directly questioned Umeh about the potential benefits his client could derive from pursuing the case further, emphasizing that it would only serve to burden the court unnecessarily. Umeh initially attempted to differentiate his client’s case from that of the PDP v. INEC case, but eventually changed his stance when Justice Okoro insisted that the appeal lacked any practical value.
