The club condemns the comments made by the former board of directors
Rafa Yuste, Barcelona‘s first vice-president for sport, criticized the leaks from former club officials that included disrespect towards Lionel Messi.
“They represent a huge lack of respect for people like Messi who have given so much for the club, and a lack of respect for the club,” Yuste declared.
“I totally reject these words which indicate that the people who were previously in charge of the team did not love the squad as they should have done.”
For his part, the former president of Barcelona, Josep Maria Bartomeu, has assured this Friday that he never had knowledge of the leaks related to Messi‘s contract, as a police report included in the summary of the ‘Barcagate’, in which he is listed as being investigated.
“I want to clarify that I have not made any of these leaks, I have not authorized any of these leaks and I have had no prior knowledge of any leaks,” Bartomeu confirmed in a statement.
The police report concludes that there could be a crime in the form of disclosing secrets by the people who leaked Messi’s contract to the newspaper El Mundo and points to Oscar Grau, Barcelona’s former general manager, and Roman Gomez-Ponti, the former head of legal services, as the alleged culprits.
The police include in the report some private WhatsApp conversations in which they also talk about an alleged smear campaign against former defender Gerard Pique and former presidential candidate Víctor Font.
Within these communications, Grau, Gomez-Ponti and Bartomeu are all named as taking part.
In this sense, the former head of the club describes the conclusions of the Mossos regarding his possible knowledge of the leak of Messi’s contract as “false”, as he understands that precisely his participation in this conversation clearly demonstrates that he neither authorized it nor had any knowledge of it.
