Chelsea have sensationally hijacked Arsenal’s deal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhailo Mudryk.
The Ukrainian looked set to join the Premier League leaders in January but Graham Potter’s side have swooped in to agree a €100 million deal (£88m).
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Chelsea representatives travelled to Turkey to hold face-to-face talks with Shakhtar Donetsk, who are having a training camp there.
And it’s believed a deal has now been agreed for the winger to join the Stamford Bridge club.
The deal is said to be a fixed fee of €70million (£62m), with a further €40m (£35m) in add-ons.
Personal terms have also been agreed between Chelsea and the 22-year-old, with a seven-year-plus deal set to be signed.
Mudryk has impressed for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in his six matches.
He’s been a key target for Arsenal throughout this window and a deal to join Mikel Arteta’s side looked likely.
When asked about Arsenal’s pursuit of Mudryk earlier this week, the Spanish manager remained coy.
“We can’t talk about players, there is interest in things we would like to do. We are a bit short, we are trying,” Arteta replied.
The Gunners have the opportunity to move eight points clear at the top of the Premier League on Sunday with victory in the north London derby and many Arsenal supporters believed Mudryk was the man to help them get over the finishing line.
