Pay attention to rural roads – Ogun speaker tells Gov. Abiodun

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Oludaisi Elemide, has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to pay attention to the deplorable state of rural roads in the state.

Elemide noted that the construction of access roads will ease human and vehicular movements, especially for farmers and other traders.

The speaker said this while reacting to a concern raised by a member representing Ifo II State Constituency, Folawewo Salami, who reported the deplorable situation of road networks in his constituency.

Salami was speaking on Friday at plenary.

The lawmaker listed some of the impassable roads in his constituency as the Ijoko/Ajuwon/Alagbole and Hercules/Toyin/Giwa among others noting that the government needed to maximise the dry season period to commence the construction of the roads.

Salami, who noted the anger of his constituents over the continuous neglect of the mentioned roads, hoped that the governor would act in due time.

Reacting, the speaker directed the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure to liaise with the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure and the State Public Works Agency (OGPWA) to begin immediate construction and rehabilitation of roads in all parts of the state ahead of the rainy season.

Earlier during the plenary the speaker also hailed the governor for encouraging collaborative governance through the creation of an enabling environment to aid intervention projects and other empowerment programmes facilitated by members of the National Assembly from the state to the various constituencies.

Elemide noted that in the past, the state governors were always at loggerheads with members of the National Assembly; a face-off, he said, always hampered the development of the state.

“I acknowledge the positive attitude of inclusiveness being run by the Dapo Abiodun administration and recall that in the past there were instances of political differences between some former State Governors and National Assembly members which denied the people the benefit of the democratic gains of such projects.”

The Speaker described the intervention projects as complementing the gains of the ISEYA Mantra of the present administration in the State, especially the rural electrification projects being resuscitated amongst others in Ogun West Senatorial District and other parts of the State.
