Yongu, residing behind Mobile Barracks in Makurdi, faces charges including criminal conspiracy, assault causing harm, attempted culpable homicide, and an act of terrorism.

During the court appearance, Yongu did not enter a plea due to the jurisdiction issue. Chief Magistrate Kelvin Mbanongun adjourned the case until March 27 for further mention.

The prosecutor, Insp. Jonah Uletu, revealed that the defendant committed the offenses on January 1 at Daudu, the venue of the Guma State Constituency’s bye-election primaries.

Uletu explained that the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Government House reported that Yongu and his armed gang invaded the primary venue, brutally assaulting Omale, causing him to collapse.

Operation Zenda Joint Task Force swiftly arrested Yongu, and further investigation revealed his association with notorious hoodlums involved in various criminal activities.

The charges against Yongu contravene sections 97, 266, and 230 of the Penal Code of Benue 2004, as well as Section 4(2) of the abduction, hostage taking, kidnapping, secret cult, and similar activities prohibition law of Benue, 2017.
