A 20-year-old man, Seun Olarewaju, has been sentenced to 30 calendar months imprisonment by an Ado-Ekiti High Court for the defilement of a three-year-old girl.
The convict faced a one-count charge of rape, with the incident occurring on August 6, 2021, in Ado-Ekiti.
During the trial, the victim’s mother testified that she discovered her daughter’s private part was red and swollen when she tried to wash her.
The child identified Seun as the perpetrator. The matter was reported to the police, leading to the arrest and subsequent trial of the defendant.
In delivering the judgment, Justice Adeniyi Familoni expressed belief in giving the young defendant a second chance for redemption.
He stated that sentencing Seun to life imprisonment might hinder his chances of becoming a good citizen.
Consequently, Seun Olarewaju was sentenced to 30 calendar months imprisonment without the option of a fine, with the sentence effective from September 20, 2021, when he was rearrested by the police and placed in detention.
